The Kathakali Face

Kathakali is the most well known dance drama from the south Indian state Kerala..The elaborate costumes and extensive face makeup of Kathakali have become the most recognized icon for Kerala. Actors do not speak or sing, but enact dialogic sections called padams through mudras (hand gestures and facial expressions).
